Split Lighting
The purpose of split lighting is to add drama to a portrait. This is done by illuminating half of the subject's face and leaving the other half dark. The light is evenly divided across the subject's face. An advantage to split lighting is that there is only a need for a single light, that it is typically set up by placing the light on one side of the subject at a 90 degree angle.
